My destination of choice this past weekend was Fish Lake National Forest which is located about 300 miles north of Las Vegas. It is really at the very high end of the distance that I would normally travel but could not pass up the chance for cooler temperatures and perhaps some rain clouds. Be careful what you wish for!
I knew thunderstorms were in the location but the forecast was for late afternoon. By that time I would typically be halfway home. The weatherman was a tiny bit off and the showers arrived early. It was mildly interesting for a few minutes but the heavy rain added about one hour to my drive home.
The morning and early afternoon were great and you can see the results here. It is likely that I will be reducing my travels somewhat due to rising gas prices and general wear and tear on my car. Also, I still have Red Rock Canyon only about 15 minutes from home.
