It was the middle of June and high temperatures in Las Vegas were already over 110 degrees. So it seemed like a good time to head north towards higher elevations and cooler temperatures. The Grand Canyon North Rim had always been on my list and this was the weekend to check it off.
I had been to the South Rim several times and had a general idea of expectations. And, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle differences in the journey. The driving was more pleasant as I was able to travel a more scenic route by first heading north from Las Vegas. Turning east near St. George Utah and passing through a few small towns provided many chances for photography and stretching my legs.
Upon arriving at the park there were not the huge crowds that might typically be found. I was easily able to find a parking spot at all of the scenic stops along the way. The self-guided nature of the experience was also a bonus versus the crowded shuttle buses that have become common in many other National Parks....
