Last week I posted a video and discussion of my experience setting up the Crane M2 gimbal with my Canon G7X Mark 3. The process was tedious but achievable in 2- 3 hours. The first attempts at creating a smooth video were another learning curve in itself.
A few of the tips and tricks I learned along the way are as follows.
Shoot in the highest frame rate possible. For the clips seen here, I recorded at 120 FPS. In processing, I then increased the speed to 200% to get the results you see here.
Keep it simple to start out. I also had a tripod for many of the shots and used the joystick on the gimbal to pan the camera. Consequently, I was able to have perfect horizontal movement in the frame. For some additional interest, I added a slow zoom movement in processing.
For a few hand-held shots, I tried to move only along one axis with the idea of keeping smooth movement. Perhaps I will try some other more dynamic moves in the next attempt. I also want to try some ideas with a monopole, perhaps using some homemade device. The mobile app offers the ability to control some minor pan functions remotely. Now all I need is a third hand or beautiful assistant. Chances are pretty close to zero on both counts.
